Danger Detective Is Now Online For Kids!
The hugely popular ‘Danger Detective’ workbook has come to life online at www.EquiMania.ca.  Interactive flash activities and videos make learning about safety on the horse farm fun!  Kids can click their way to a printable certificate after completing online games in five categories:  rider safety, safety around the horse, safety around equipment, safety in the barn and safety outside.

Announcing the Winners of our 2011 Trail Riding Photo Contest

 This past summer, Equine Canada’s Recreation Division held a photo contest for shutterbugs who love to be on the trail.  We asked for your submissions showing riders enjoying the great outdoors on their trusty equines, complete with proper safety equipment –  helmets with chins straps and fluorescent vests (if they were on the road, but we advocate wearing them at all times for enhanced safety). Final Report of National Trail Leadership Roundtable Released

From November 23-25 2010, Trans Canada Trail and Parks Canada brought together 49 trail community stakeholders for the National Trail Leadership Roundtable in Banff, Alberta. This event provided a forum to discuss the future of trail development, management and sustainability in Canada. Common areas of agreement and challenges were identified, along with the need for increased collaboration and a forum for future discussion.  A report has been developed outlining the discussions, including a more detailed account of the issues and next steps. The final version is now available for viewing.

Ontario Equestrian Federation and Equine Canada Announce Recreation Funding Program for Ontario Members

The Ontario Equestrian Federation (OEF) and Equine Canada will officially launch their Recreation Funding Program at the 2011 Can-Am All Breeds Equine Emporium this coming weekend (March 18- 20 , 2011) being held at the Western Fairgrounds Agriplex Building in London, Ontario. The program is designed to fund educational programs and trail development for the equestrian community; equestrian clubs or organizations applying for funds must be members in good standing with the OEF Recreation Council.  Chair of Recreation Council Named Chair of Equine Code Development Committee
Jack de Wit, Chair of the Recreation Council, has also been named as Chair of the national Equine Code Development Committee.

Equine Canada is pleased to announce the Equine Code Development Committee of 18 stakeholder representatives from eight provinces has been finalized and the next stage of revising the Code of Practice for Horses, last developed in 1998, can begin. Following the nationally recognized and supported National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) Code Development Guidelines, the Equine Code Development Committee will work with the Equine Scientists’ Committee, assembled by NFACC, to develop the new Code of Practice for Horses that is planned for release in 2013.
