This one is to you Hickstead. I have seen your tomb in Calagary and I worshiped it! (Not joking) It is so upsetting that you are not in the 2012 London Olympics. It is such a shame. I wish you were still alive Hickstead. Let peace come along you. Enjoy your days up in horsey heaven. Ley God guide you into the care you need. We will never forget you. You will never be replaced for you are not just a legend; a hero! We will miss you forever!

Eric, you and Hickstead were destined for greatness and you got that. The death of Hickstead was very emotional. He was the best showjumper that has ever walked the earth. May God bless you two! Please carry on with your career. For Hickstead! I will always follow in your footsteps and believe in you!

Dear Eric, directly seeing the disappearance of a great champion, like Hickstead, has resulted in me and people close to me a terrible pain.
But I'm sure he will always be next to you, 'cause I'm firmly convinced that also horses have a soul, you've just to take a reflective look to the sky to be able seeing your beloved champion.

Bye Hickstead, great champion!!

My heartfelt sympathy to Eric and all those who loved this magnificent horse. He was one in a million and so are you Eric. You have overcome so much to achieve your position as the top rider in the world. When you ride in the future Hickstead will be with you in spirit. There is another horse out there for you. Keep searching. The whole world is behind you. Take care and ride on.

My heart goes out to you Eric and to the great Hickstead. Together you climbed mountains that neither of you could do individually. It is hard to lose a companion and best friend who has seen you though many hard life experiences. To have the love and trust of a horse is to truly experience God.

Dear Eric (and the rest of the Hickstead Family)- We were all shaken by your dreadful tragedy; we were so impressed by your dignity afterwards. We especially hope that another legend in the making finds you soon, and takes flight with your Hickstead-honed skills. Prends courage!
We cherish what you have given us and know that you have many more contributions to make, not only to Canada but to the entire equestrian community.

This tribute is as much for you as it is for Hickstead. The depth of your partnership speaks for itself as evidenced by your achievements together. You are to be commended for your well spoken and heart felt comments during the press conference held so soon after the tragic event (in both official languages no less!). You have impressed us all, the well informed and those who are not equestrian savvy, with your talent, commitment and deep respect for your chosen field of endeavor.
Thank-you!

Dear Eric,

The whole equestrian world is stunned and saddened by Hickstead's tragic heart attack. His loss is a devastating blow to Canadian show jumping, to his owners, to all who worked with him, and above all, to you, the rider he protected to the end.

"Eric and Hickstead" became the watchword for excellence in show jumping, and we were privileged to follow this brilliant partnership's incredible career.

Our hearts go out to you at this sad and difficult time.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Bordeaux

We watched Hickestead give his whole heart to his task over and over,a true champion right to the last.

May you find comfort in the thought that you brought out his best and that he is grazing now in Elysian Fields. Our hearts are with you.

It was such a rush to watch you and Hickstead compete, the energy of the entire area changed when you entered. I remembered sitting on the floor in front of the TV at the olympics at about 3am and just crying and crying when you won!

What happened is such a tragedy. The best show jumper that has ever been has been lost in the most tragic way ever seen. Thank you for all you've done for the sport, for the country, and for all equestrians. It was truly an honour to have lived in your time. Hickstead will never be forgotten, he will truly go down in history as a legend. Take care of yourself, Eric, and whatever decision you decide to make about your career will be supported by the equestrian community. So sorry for your loss, Hickstead will always be missed.

Eric, I remember the very first time I saw you guys ride was your winning jump-off in Beijing. It was incredible until then if someone were to ask me who my favourite horse was I would have said Seabiscuit. I don't know what it was maybe because you where a fellow Canadian or maybe it was just how mesmerizing you and Hickstead where you guys will always be my favourites. You guys were such an incredible team I could hardly believe it you and HIckstead are inspiring and even thought Hickstead is gone it doesnt mean hes gone from your heart or the hearts of your fans. I am truely sorry for your loss.
