Organizers Guidelines for Hosting a Young Event Horse and
The program is offered to 4 year olds competing in the Entry Division and 5 year olds competing at Pre-training. The Open division is open for Mares that have had term or near-term foals. They will be allowed a “by” year if a certificate of verification, signed by a veterinarian, is submitted to the Equine Canada office. The intent of this rule is to allow Mares who have taken time off to be bred the opportunity to compete in four year old classes as five year olds and five year old classes as six year olds. The Organizer may choose to host the YEH competition on a separate date from their Event if they so wish. It is recommended that conformation classes be held prior to the first dressage test. SECTION II - Dressage The Competitors will be evaluated by a separate YEH judge during their Horse Trials dressage test. This will alleviate the necessity of two dressage tests. SECTION III – Jumping Test/Gallop/General Impression Competitors will compete in the regular horse trials show jumping and cross-country phases. A YEH jumping judge will evaluate a combination of stadium and cross-country fences using a minimum of one technical type fence i.e. ditch, bank, water etc. It is recommended to judge fences earlier on the cross-country course if possible. The Gallop will also be assessed by the jumping judge while the horse is on the cross country course.
