May 14, 2010 — Canadian Olympian Bonny Bonnello of Calgary, AB, has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for April.
At the Kentucky Cup Dressage CDI3* Lexington, held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, April 20–22, Bonnello earned an impressive personal best score of 68.638% in the Grand Prix test to take third place riding Pikardi (Point Maker x Daimont), a 13-year-old Canadian Warmblood gelding that she co-owns and Jean Bell. In the Grand Prix Special held the following day, the pair scored another personal best with 70.292% for second place.
“I am truly honored to be chosen as the Dressage Canada Athlete of the Month for April. My thanks go out to Red Scarf Equestrian for sponsoring this fabulous award and giving encouragement and recognition of accomplishments to Canadian riders,” said Bonnello, who represented Canada in dressage at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. “My journey leading up to the Kentucky Cup CDI has been full of excitement and hard work. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be invited to train with Robert Dover over the winter months in Florida. And now with help from Robert we have made great improvements which have proven to be successful.”
Due to their outstanding results, Bonnello and Pikardi have also been named to the 2010 European Tour with stops at CDI4* Wiesbaden, GER, May 21 – 24; CDI4* Lingen, GER, June 4 – 6; CDIO Rotterdam, NED, June 16 – 20; and CDIO Aachen, GER, July 13 – 18, 2010.
“I was thrilled to be on that podium twice at Lexington and that just makes me work harder, and
I embrace the opportunity to compete in Europe,” added Bonnello.
