March 23, 2010 — Belinda Trussell of Newmarket, ON, has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for January.
Trussell won the Grand Prix Special test scoring 68.292% riding Anton (Antaeus x Melit), a 10-year-old German-bred gelding owned by Robyn Eames, at the at the CDI-W West Palm Beach Gold Coast Opener, held January 21–24, in West Palm Beach, FL, USA.
Riding Anton in only his second season at the Grand Prix Level, Trussell has spent the winter months training and competing in Florida earning qualifying scores and preparing for the World Equestrian Games being held in Lexington, Kentucky, September 25 – October 10, 2010.
Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of Canadian dressage riders who represent Canada in national and international competition at the FEI Pony, Children, Junior, Young Rider, Advanced, Grand Prix and Young Horses classes.
